his latest exhibit, “The Peep Show” at Activation 440: The Artist Bazaar, had a two-day opening reception on June 4th and Saturday, June 5th.

ULTRA's FILM DAY

(Washington DC) ULTRA invites to watch films with him at The Fridge, 516 8th St. SE (rear alley, 2 blocks from Eastern Market Metro) on June 5th. Come explore the street art/ graffiti phenomenon with three underground films that try to capture this growing medium. The showing will be followed by a discussion panel on art in public spaces. DC's new graffiti paint store, Pintura Fresca, will be giving away a free can of Montana 94 spraypaint to the first 20 guests.

This movie travels the world and meets international artists CLAW, CORNBREAD, DAIM, Ron English, Shepherd Fairey, Blek Le Rat, REVS and many, many more. The debate over public art and public space is introduced in a thought-provoking way.

Featuring Nick Smith (director of Chocolate City Burning) and DECOY (queen of DC wheatpaste) and other surprise guests.

More public artwork to rev up Rockville Pike

First new sculptures to be unveiled next month by Cedric Ricks | Special to The Gazette

Barnaby Zall hopes he's seeing the start of an eye-catching trend along Rockville Pike. A growing number of new mixed-use developments along the busy thoroughfare are including public art projects for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Two developments under construction, North Bethesda Market and Twinbrook Station, will have projects completed by two respected artists — James Sanborn of Washington, D.C., and Howard McCalebb, an American living in Germany.

CREATE "OUR PLAYGROUND DC" MURAL ON SUNDAY

Come paint a mural with Albus Cavus for Union Station this Sunday. The theme is DC as our playground, a place where we love to live, work and play. The leading artist of this workshop will be Kevin "Jazi" Irvin. Everyone is encouraged to come and contribute to this massive collage.

Sunday, May 23 from 2pm to 4pm at The Freezer, 633 E Street SE (rear alley). Painting will be on primed paper using variety of media. Wear working clothes. Recommended donation but none is turned away. All supplies provided.

Dedication Ceremony for the New York Avenue Sculpture Project

Niki has arrived in Washington, DC! On April 28th the National Museum of Women in the Arts celebrated the opening of its first public art project with a Dedication Ceremony during the day and Grand Reception in the evening. Now that spring is here, it is the perfect time to plan a visit to DC to see Niki de Saint Phalle's sculptures in person.
